East Cobb Schools-Top in the Nation According to Newsweek Magazine
For those of us who already live in the East Cobb section of Marietta, Georgia, this probably does not come as a big surprise. We have known for a long time that East Cobb has the one of the highest qualities of education for our children. It’s why we moved here. It’s why we searched and searched for the right home here. It’s why we love it here…among many many other reasons.
But, for those of you who are thinking about moving to East Cobb, let me give you three reasons to go ahead and make that move:
Walton High School
Lassiter High School
Pope High School
These three schools were recognized by Newsweek Magazine as America’s Top Public High Schools.
Walton came in at #90 out of 1500 schools in the United States ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews: the number of Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors. All of the schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000; they are in the top 6 percent of public schools measured this way. (If you have questions about the list, please contact challenge@washpost.com).
Lassiter came in next at #364 and Pope came in at #1072. Not bad for a state that as a whole is lagging a little on the quality of education it offers. This is exactly why East Cobb is still a sought after area of North Metro Atlanta.
You get a “private school” education at a public school price.
Not only that, East Cobb has a small town sort of vibe to it. Everything is close by. Dining, shopping, churches, entertainment. You don’t have to go far from home to enjoy the quality of life that East Cobb offers. So, for that reason, you see folks you know nearly everywhere you go. Hence, giving you that small town feel, within minutes of the big city.

Paradise Grille & Paradise South of the Border in East Cobb/Marietta, Georgia
May 14, 2009 by Jodi Smith · Leave a Comment
This family restaurant is located in East Cobb at 3605 Sandy Plains Rd., Marietta, GA 30066. Their number is: 770-579-6226. Here are a couple of reviews from recent guests:
- The food at paradise grill is the best. And the service is good too. But most of all it’s the atmosphere it is a great place to take a lot of kids and nobody minds the fact that they are all running around like crazy. We eat there at least once a week
- The food is delicious, just last night I had the prime and cheddar. It was to die for. I also love the closeness to my school. It makes it easy to get from my school to go get a good tasty bite. The service is also great with kind people that are always running around and helping out.
- I’ve been to the Paradise Grill several times with friends and family. Although their house margaritas could be better, the servers have always attempted to make us happy. Food is very good, and the fried shrimp is better than on the coast! If you’re looking for a quiet, elegant hangout, this ain’t it. It IS the place for variety, friends, conversation, trivia, appetizers and good food at fair prices! I really like the place, and hope you will, too.
- Paradise Grille is a family favorite of ours and has been for a long time. The service is great in the restaurant or bar (Jason is the best). Restaurant is a very kid-friendly place and all the people leaving bad reviews because of THAT are just old grumps. Food is AWESOME, especially for the prices! Drinks are always great, cheap beer on draft and they have specials daily. We come here with the whole family, kids, in-laws for a quick dinner, or sit in the closed-off bar area if it’s just my husband and I. I think my husband will be seeking a new home solely to remain close to Paradise, lol.
There is now a Mexican Restaurant next door called Paradise South of the Border. Already, it has some fans:
- I kid you not. The wait staff at this place is smoking hot. The management is friendly, actually comes by and checks on you, shakes your hand, introduces himself and hand delivers the food. I had the Shrimp fajitas. They were awesome.
Great place to take a date or the fam. - Just went to the the new Paradise South of the Border. (owned and operated by Paradise Grille next door). Have been waiting anxiously for this to open. We love Paradise Grille, great food, friendly service, atmosphere that is appealing to our entire family. South of the Border is cool, modern atmosphere is refreshing and hip. You will feel like you are in a Tiki Hut on an island. The menu is consice right now and they are adding dishes based on customer feedback! What a great way to build yet another successful neighborhood place. Good luck!
Either way, you can’t go wrong!
